Ripples

Just as ripples spread out when a single pebble is dropped into water, the actions of individuals can have far-reaching effects. ~ Dalai Lamaripples - everything you do has some impact

Do you realize you created ripples today?  Not from the shore of a pond or lake with a pebble or rock but by your words, deeds and actions.  A warm, “Good morning” and the friendly smile you gave to perfect stranger whose path you crossed. By scraping the ice off the car windows and warming up your wife’s car before she leaves for work in the morning. Making your stepchild’s lunch for them to take to school.

Like a pebble dropped into water the good things you do radiate outwards into the world. Sometimes those ripples are reflected back to you. You eventually receive the goodness from the ripple you created. Sometimes it’s the same day, the next week or maybe even years, even decades into the future. Please watch the following video.

Regrettably, not all ripples you create are good. The not ready for prime time words you use when someone cuts you off in traffic. Your contribution to the gossip about a fellow co-worker.  The harsh correction you gave your stepchild for forgetting to do their chores. These acts also create ripples that radiate out into the world. Like with the good ripples, the negative ripples can reflected back to you.

As stepparents many of you feel unappreciated. You do good things for your stepchildren and families and you may never receive the appreciation you deserve. The good things you do are appreciated. Don’t get tired of making positive ripples.
