A stepfather’s value to the family is more than just their financial contribution. Besides money, a stepfather’s brings wisdom, compassion and a man’s perspective to the family. To limit his contribution to just money sends a negative message to the stepfather and presents a dysfunctional model of a marriage to the children. Depending upon the length of time a woman’s been a single parent it may be difficult for her to truly partner with her husband to function as a single unit. Regardless of the difficulty this partnering must happen for the sake of the marriage and family. Are you and your wife functioning as one unit? Do you have a couple that models how to function as a successful single unit? Can you start a mentoring relationship with that couple?
